OpenVMS
OpenVMS, or VMS as it was once known, was also previously referred to as the VAZ-11/VMS,VAX/VMS or simply VMS as previously stated.
OpenVMS is a high end computer system that runs on the VAX, Itanium and Alpha based families of computers. Although the word Open appears in the title of the product VMS is not an open source software.
Unlike other mainframe-oriented operating systems the OpenVMS system has a GUI, or Graphical User Interface, with complete graphics support. DEC’s VAX was one of the three largest selling workstation lines in the early 1990’s, its main competitors were Domain/OS workstations created by both Apollo and Sun Microsystems UNIX style workstations.
Professional DTP and CAE software operators had support software under the running VMS on VAX computers .
